Best Tesla Floor Mats in Australia (2025–2026 Guide)

If there’s one accessory every Tesla owner in Australia should buy before anything else, it’s a quality set of floor mats.

The factory carpet looks great on day one — but it won’t survive a single muddy school run, beach trip, or camping weekend without a fight.

This guide covers the right floor mats for every current Tesla model in Australia: the Model Y (2020–2024), Model Y Juniper, Model 3 Highland, and the new YL 6-seater.

Why Floor Mats Matter More in a Tesla

Tesla interiors are premium and largely light-coloured. Unlike a traditional car where a bit of dirt goes unnoticed, the minimalist Tesla cabin makes mess immediately visible.

A good set of floor mats is the single most cost-effective way to protect your investment and keep the interior looking showroom-fresh for years.

Australian conditions make this even more important. Red dirt, beach sand, wet grass, and muddy boots are a daily reality here in a way most other markets simply aren’t. Your floor mats need to handle all of it.

XPE vs Rubber vs Carpet — Which Material is Best?

TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) — The Gold Standard for Australian Teslas

  • Completely waterproof — liquid pools on the surface rather than soaking through
  • Odourless — won’t off-gas in a hot car the way rubber can
  • Flexible in cold temperatures — won’t crack or stiffen in winter
  • Easy to clean — lift out, hose down, dry, replace
  • Custom-moulded with raised edges to contain spills and fit flush to door sills
  • Eco-friendly and recyclable

Rubber Mats

Durable and waterproof, but can emit a strong smell in a hot car — a real issue in Australian summers. XPE has largely replaced rubber as the preferred choice for EV interiors.

Carpet Mats

Look great but offer minimal protection. They absorb liquid, trap sand and dirt, and are difficult to clean. Not recommended as a primary floor protection solution for Australian conditions.

Tesla Floor Mats by Model — Fitment Guide

This is where many buyers get caught out. Tesla has released several distinct models and refreshes, and mats are not interchangeable between them. Here’s what fits what.

Tesla Model Y (2020–2024) — Original 3 Peice-Seat

The original Model Y is the most common Tesla on Australian roads. Most aftermarket floor mat sets are designed for this variant.

A full set covers 2 front footwells, 1 rear footwells.

Tesla Model Y Juniper (2025–present)

Tesla’s refreshed Model Y — known as the Juniper — has updated interior dimensions and a redesigned cabin. Original Model Y mats will not fit the Juniper correctly. You need Juniper-specific mats with the updated contour profile.

The Juniper is also available as a bundle with other essential accessories:

Tesla Model 3 Highland (2024–present)

The Model 3 Highland is Tesla’s refreshed sedan, launched in Australia in 2024 with a completely redesigned interior. Like the Juniper, the Highland requires its own specific floor mat set — previous Model 3 mats will not fit.

Tesla Model Y YL 6-Seater (2026)

The brand new YL is Tesla’s 6-seat Model Y variant launching in Australia in 2026. It features a third row of seating, which means a completely different floor mat configuration. Standard 5-seat Model Y mats will not provide full coverage for the YL — you need a dedicated 4-piece set designed for the 6-seat layout.

Do You Need Front, Rear, and Boot Coverage?

Short answer: yes. Here’s why each piece matters:

  • Front mats: Take the most wear from driver and passenger entry and exit. The driver’s side accumulates significant dirt daily.
  • Rear mats: If you have kids or regularly carry passengers, the rear footwells get just as dirty — often more so.
  • Boot liner: The Model Y’s boot is large and flat, perfect for camping gear, groceries, and sports equipment — all of which bring in dirt, moisture, and debris. A fitted boot liner is essential. Shop Tesla Trunk Liner.
  • Frunk liner: The front boot is smaller but often used for charging cables and valuables. A frunk liner keeps it clean and protects the painted surface.

What to Look for When Buying Tesla Floor Mats

  • Custom fit: Always buy mats specifically designed for your exact Tesla model and year — never universal mats.
  • Raised lip height: A higher lip (15mm+) means better containment of liquid and debris.
  • Anti-slip backing: The mat must grip the carpet firmly and not slide under braking.
  • Full coverage set: Look for a set covering all footwells plus the boot liner.
  • Odourless TPE: Quality mats should be certified odourless at high temperatures — critical in Australian summers.

How to Clean Tesla Floor Mats

One of the biggest advantages of TPE mats is how easy they are to maintain:

  1. Lift the mat out of the car
  2. Shake off loose dirt and debris
  3. Rinse with a garden hose or pressure washer
  4. Scrub with a soft brush and mild detergent if needed
  5. Air dry (they dry quickly)
  6. Replace in the car

For a quick clean between washes, a handheld vacuum and damp cloth is all you need. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners that can degrade TPE over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Tesla Model Y floor mats fit the Juniper?

No. The Juniper (2024+) has updated interior dimensions and requires Juniper-specific mats. Original Model Y mats will not fit correctly.

Do Tesla Model Y mats fit the Model 3 Highland?

No. The Model 3 Highland has a completely different interior to the Model Y and requires its own specific floor mat set.

What floor mats fit the Tesla YL 6-seater?

The YL requires a dedicated 4-piece floor mat set designed for the 6-seat layout. Standard 5-seat Model Y mats will not provide full coverage. View our YL floor mats here.

Are TPE floor mats safe for Tesla interiors?

Yes. Quality TPE mats are odourless, non-toxic, and won’t off-gas harmful chemicals in a hot car. They are the recommended material for EV interiors.

Can I use universal floor mats in my Tesla?

Not recommended. Universal mats don’t cover the full floor area, lack raised edges to contain spills, and can slide under the pedals — a safety risk.

Do aftermarket floor mats void the Tesla warranty?

No. Aftermarket floor mats are a cosmetic accessory and do not affect your Tesla warranty.

How do I know which Tesla model I have?

Go to Controls > Software > Additional Vehicle Information on your touchscreen. This will show your exact model, variant, and build details.
