Tesla roof-rack FAQ
Quick answers about compatibility, installation, carrying loads and range impact.
Check current optionsWhich Australian Tesla models have roof-rack options?
Current product options cover Model Y, Model Y Juniper, Model YL, Model 3 and Model 3 Highland. Choose the exact vehicle variant on the product page and check current fitment notes before ordering.
Do Tesla roof racks require drilling?
No. The racks are designed to use the vehicle's existing roof mounting points, without drilling or adhesives. Correct placement and installation are important around the glass roof.
How much weight can these roof racks carry?
The current My Tesla Accessories roof racks are rated to 70kg. Always include the weight of the rack, mounting hardware and cargo when planning a load, and follow the vehicle and product instructions.
Will roof racks reduce my Tesla's driving range?
They can. Empty aerodynamic bars usually have less impact than a loaded roof box, kayak or bulky cargo. Speed, wind and weather also matter. Use the Tesla Range Loss Calculator for a personalised estimate.
Can I carry a roof box, kayak or surfboard?
Yes, provided the carrier and cargo are compatible, securely fitted and remain within the applicable load limits. T-track compatibility can simplify mounting for many cargo-box systems.
Should I carry bicycles on the glass roof?
Our product guidance recommends a hitch-mounted bike carrier instead. Lifting bicycles above the glass roof creates an avoidable risk of forks or other parts being dropped onto the glass.
Can I install the roof racks myself?
Yes, if you are comfortable following the installation instructions carefully. You can download the fitting guide, or book professional installation at the Brisbane workshop.
